Clone Wars 1.20

“Innocents of Ryloth”
epguide020

The second part of the Ryloth Trilogy is actually better than the first and again it’s not the action that does it. It’s the humanity. From two clones no less, which makes it even more effective.

The premise is again simple. Obi-Wan has gotten his troops through the blockade after the events of last episode and he must lead a ground assault against a set of laser cannons that are set up to prevent any large scale assault. The main problem is the Separatists are using Twi’lek prisoners as living shields which slows down the Republic forces.

Again the action is top notch as always but as recently has been the trend it takes a back seat to more character development. Two clones, Boil and Waxer scout ahead trying to determine the best route for Obi-Wan and the rest of the troops. After obtaining the information, they run into a child twi’lek. They have an internal struggle. Afraid she might slow them down, in the end they can’t leave the child alone to the droids, so they take her with them. And they do so in humorous fashion. Waxer unequivocably won’t let her go while Boil needs some convincing.

What follows is some good natured bickering and showcasing that Boil would not be a good father.

In the end though as they return it is the child that helps out by showing the Republic troops through underground tunnels allowing them to attack by surprise and free the prisoners while destroying the cannons. It’s a great shot of innocence not often seen in the Star Wars universe and a great reminder of why the Republic fights on.

A nearly perfect episode that really continues a great trend in season 1.
