Congratulations to president elect Obama.

November 05th, 2008 | Category: Articles by Captain Obvious, Independent, The 2008 Election

As a conservative, I did not support this ticket. Congratulations are in order to president elect Obama, vice president elect Biden and their campaign. May you do better than Carter.

In the mean time, I’m not going to stop criticizing his proposed policies, but will respect and praise the ones that do make sense.

Security or Voter Intimidation?

This was at a polling station in Philadelphia. This location is a nursing home. Does this amount to possible voter intimidation or is this security needed?

What kind of judges should a president appoint?

October 29th, 2008 | Category: Articles by Captain Obvious, Independent, The 2008 Election

It is amazing how a little discussion about a seven year old video will uncover some interesting comments and inspire me to write about the president’s responsibility to appoint judges and how that will shape the country, not just for four years, but for a generation. Most federal judges have lifetime appointments as do the supreme court justices. I plan to discuss the types of judges that can be appointed and which ones are likely to be appointed by each candidate. I may even get into some opinion on why some would be bad. At the end, I hope we know what we are going to be getting in the court system by both presidential candidates.

Poll: Halloween fun or over the line?

Palin noose

An effigy of Sarah Palin is hanging in a noose at a West Hollywood home. Is this within the realms of political satire or is this out of bounds? If it is not out of bounds, would it be if it was an effigy of Barack Obama?

The 2001 Obama radio interview controversy.

This video reaffirms Senator Obama’s plan to “spread the wealth around” and now instead of facing the music for his words, the Obama campaign is lashing out at Fox News and the Drudge report.

Plot to assassinate Obama foiled.

Source. All I can say is, GOOD! As much as I do not want Obama to be the president, I feel that these backwoods hicks deserve to be treated like a common criminal and jailed for as long as possible. While the plot to assassinate Senator Obama is an unacceptable crime, even worse was their plot to shoot 88 black students and decapitate 14 non-white students after robbing a gun store.

While these men may have felt that they had no other outlet to voice their opinion, violence only furthers the problems that we face in America.

Is Love Blind?

Throughout this presidential election cycle, there has been one glaring truth about the presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama: people love him. Despite what he says or what is uncovered about him, that love does not seem to diminish. Read more

Can the Obama campaign answer the tough questions?

Joe Biden recently had a satellite interview with Orlando TV station WFTV with anchor Barbara West. She asked questions about Obama’s ties to ACORN, his statements about “spreading the wealth around” and Biden’s own comments about an international crisis within the first 6 months if Obama is elected. Source.

In response to this interview, the Obama campaign had this to say.

“There’s nothing wrong with tough questions, but reporters have the very important job of sharing the truth with the public — not misleading the American people with false information. Senator Biden handled the interview well; however, the anchor was completely unprofessional. Senator Biden’s wife is not running for elected office, and there are many other stations in the Orlando television market that would gladly conduct a respectful and factual interview with her.”

“This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election.”

Obama’s 401k disaster plan.

There is so much focus on tax breaks in obama’s plan that many people have overlooked a key statement by Barack Obama and I want to explain how this would hurt the stock market and the economy.

“I want to give credit where credit is due, I welcome Sen. McCain’s proposal to waive the rules that currently force our seniors to withdraw from their 401(k)s even when the market is bad,” Obama said. “I think that’s a good idea, but I think we need to do even more. Since so many Americans will be struggling to pay the bills over the next year, I propose that we allow every family to withdraw up to 15% from their IRA or 401(k) — up to a maximum of $10,000 — without any fine or penalty through 2009.”
