While I was not one who despised the 2003 Ang Lee version of the Hulk like most people I know, I have to admit that the newer version does reveal the weaknesses of the previous incantation.  Mostly that this film has a more crisp, clear focus.  Continuing in what is a recent trend in smart decisions by Marvel to coordinate their films as a part of an overall universe, it is almost as if Marvel is the movie, starting with Iron Man and Hulk is the sequel in the storyline.
