After four episodes of the second season, it seems as if there are a ton of good ideas, but man is it so slow to develop that it doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Nathan takes steps to take care of himself, by visiting his sons. He tells them that his grandmother was in the hospital and that they should visit. He shaves off his beard and visits his mother. While there, Angela confesses to killing Kaito. Parkman knows she’s lying but he can’t say how.

“Kindred” is another lackluster episode in comparison to the first season. It has a feel of been there done that as it slowly plods along.

Sylar awakens on a beach very disoriented next to Candice who is in disguise. She tells him that she doesn’t go by Candice anymore, instead she goes by Michelle. She explains that she is creating an illusion of a tropical paradise while he recovers from the many surgeries it took to save his life after Hiro made a shishkabob of him. Sylar hates it and wants to see the truth. He also learns that he is powerless. Michelle tries to explain that it’s temporary, but as we know Sylar is not patient. He attacks Michelle, killing her, hoping to get her powers. He takes her brain, but finds out that despite taking her powers he still can’t use them. Then he discovers that he’s in the middle of nowhere far away from civilization. It’s interesting enough, but it’s slow in developing.

Review: Heroes 2.02 heroes22-150x150

Lizards is a step back in the right direction, but a tentative one. The episode doesn’t do a whole lot wrong, but the overall pacing is still on the slow side overall, and not the compact focused feel of the first season. The focus of this review will be by storyline.

The Irish gang believe that Peter stole the iPods that were supposed to be in the cargo container he was found in. Peter can’t remember his name, let alone any iPods. Ricky, the leader, are pretty violent towards him although his sister, Caitlin is much more tenable. After they leave, she tends to his wounds and explains the situation.

Review: Heroes 2.01 fourmonthslater-150x150

As shown by the title of the episode, season 2 takes place 4 months after season 1 and unfortunately the show has lost a bit of focus along the way. Of course, some of that can be attributed to having such a final episode end the season (minus the Hiro tease), that it’s going to take some time to really set it’s mark again.

Review: Heroes 1.23 Heroes_Exploding

A show like Heroes demands a fitting season and arc finale and “How To Stop an Exploding Man” mostly delivers. We finally see the Heroes come together and we finally see the battle we’ve been waiting for: Peter vs. Sylar. Unfortunately it’s not as long and drawn out a fight as I would have liked to have seen, but it does serve the purpose well.

Review: Heroes 1.22 Heroes_Landslide

“Landslide” is just that. A victory of a set up for the finale. It moves the story along at a brisk pace and the characters remain energetic and memorable as we move to the inevitable climax.

We open where Peter is about to go supernova from taking Ted’s ability. He begs Claire to shoot him, but then he is able to keep it under control. It’;s this meeting that signifies how close we are to bringing everyone together now.

Meanwhile Hiro is depressed as his sword is broken…almost as broken as he is. It is here that Ando proves his worth as a sidekick, dragging Hiro towards his destiny. He finds a swordsmith advertising in the yellow pages that bears the familiar helix. With newfound hope the pair begin the next step of their adventure.

Bennet and company make plans. Peter and Ted agree to leave the city in case one of them does explode and Claire will go with them. Bennet and Ted will go destroy the tracking system. Unfortunately for them, Sylar is near enough with super-hearing to hear what is going on.

Review: Heroes 1.21

Review: Heroes 1.21 Heroes_HardPart

The Hard Part is a difficult episode to review. It is an episode which explores worthy topics and indeed even has some interesting results, but in some ways it goes too far to be a truly phenomenal episode. I guess it’s simply a manner of not executing the idea properly.

Sylar continues to paint in Isaac’s apartment, when he paints himself in confrontation with Ted Sprague. He also envisions the nuclear explosion and he finally gets a pang of conscience? It’s bizarre. He calls Mohinder saying that while he’s killed numerous times in order to get abilities he doesn’t want to kill all those innocent people.

Review: Heroes 1.20

Review: Heroes 1.20 Heroes_5YearsGone

For a filler episode Five Years Gone shows them how it’s done. It’s not anything that is unique. Many shows, especially those of this genre, have gone for the whole alternate future schtick, but honestly, it never gets old. It’s a chance to see characters in a whole new light as we see where they could be.

We open where we left off. Hiro and Ando meet up with the badass Future Hiro. Future Hiro is shocked and tells him that he’s not supposed to be here. After a little back and forth including a humorous line where Hiro says that Future Hiro intimidates him. Future Hiro tells them that they must go back and stab Sylar.

“.07%” suffers greatly from from impatience. The story is well on it’s final lap towards the climactic final battle and with that in mind, it seems as if this episode sloooooooooooooows it down a bit. The pacing is a bit off, and with just a tease of Sylar vs. Peter which actually sums up the episode. We know where it’s going and we just can’t stand the waiting game. Even the bits it does give us, tend not to have the dramatic weight they should for some reason.

Review: Heroes 1.18

Review: Heroes 1.18 Heroes_Parasite

As usual the cycle continues: Set up, Set up, PAYOFF, Set up, Set up, PAYOFF. “Company Man” was definitely a payoff, so “Parasite” by nature has to be a set up. But as things are wrapping up, it’s time for the final lap so to speak so this set up has a little more of a kick to it.

Simone dies, and Isaac is pissed. He starts shooting at Peter again, who disappears and runs to Nathan in despair. Nathan tells Peter he is going to anonymously call the police and that Peter should seek help from Mohinder. Peter quickly leaves.
