“Powerless” takes a somewhat lackluster season and really hammered home a decent finale, gettting you set up for Season 3.

We open with basically a recap as Peter and Hiro set to square off. Peter tries to convince Hiro, but can’t, so when Hiro disappears and winds up behind Peter with his blade to his throat, Peter electrocutes the sword knocking Hiro unconcscious. It is a short but sweet battle, that works on a realistic level as well as a dramatic one.

While perhaps a step or two below the last couple of episodes “Truth and Consequences” certainly serves as a serviceable penultimate episode of the season, sending us hurtling into the finale.

There are plenty of slow and unspectacular sequences as Peter and Adam track down Victoria Pratt in Maine. Their goal is to find out where the virus is held, under the guise that they are going to destroy it although we know that Adam truly wants to release it. Revealing another member of the company is very anticlimactic. She’s a recluse and Adam sends Peter in saying she held a grudge against him.

“Cautionary Tales” is a phenomenal joyride. It’s really the story of a growing desperation of families, masquerading as a slam bang fast paced thrill ride towards the end of the season.

We open with Bennet arguing with Claire. He wants to leave this instance but Claire stands up to him like she’s never stood up to anyone, to the point where Sandra has to intervene, allowing Claire to go to school to say goodbye to her friends and they will leave that night.

The titles of two episodes fit their station very well. “Four Months Later” is like the second season…mediocre for the most part - slow and plodding. Although in the second season, “Four Months Ago” is a harkening back to the show’s first season. Fast, furious, and entertaining as hell.

We continue building towards something instead of floating along side of it by the time we reach the seventh episode of the season. Unfortunately there is not a lot of time left in the year. So that is the main issue. Everything has to snowball quickly at the end.

“The Line” is a step in the right direction towards righting the ship. Not a huge step, but it is a little more quickly paced - making up for the molasses of the beginning of the season.

Claire tries out for cheerleading, knowing she can use it to cover for her budding relationship with West. Unfortunately teen bully Debbie dismisses Claire despite he being the best candidate. Another of the cheerleaders sticks up for Claire but it is not enough. When Claire is upset, West convinces Claire that they are the special ones and they should use their powers to put Debbie back in her place.

“Fight or Flight” continues season two’s inconsistency. Half the stories are worth watching while the other half aren’t. And even the ones that are worth watching have taken a while to develop. Such as the Peter Petrelli storyline for example. Peter has settled into his new life with Caitlin when a young blonde woman named Elle is shown to be looking for him on the docks of Cork. She gets information from a few men, like Will as to where he is. As she walks away she begins playing with electricty from her fingers. Elle is an interesting development. A new character with ties to the storyline ingrained as she is searching for Peter, she is immediately more interesting than Alejandro and Maya.

After four episodes of the second season, it seems as if there are a ton of good ideas, but man is it so slow to develop that it doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Nathan takes steps to take care of himself, by visiting his sons. He tells them that his grandmother was in the hospital and that they should visit. He shaves off his beard and visits his mother. While there, Angela confesses to killing Kaito. Parkman knows she’s lying but he can’t say how.

“Kindred” is another lackluster episode in comparison to the first season. It has a feel of been there done that as it slowly plods along.

Sylar awakens on a beach very disoriented next to Candice who is in disguise. She tells him that she doesn’t go by Candice anymore, instead she goes by Michelle. She explains that she is creating an illusion of a tropical paradise while he recovers from the many surgeries it took to save his life after Hiro made a shishkabob of him. Sylar hates it and wants to see the truth. He also learns that he is powerless. Michelle tries to explain that it’s temporary, but as we know Sylar is not patient. He attacks Michelle, killing her, hoping to get her powers. He takes her brain, but finds out that despite taking her powers he still can’t use them. Then he discovers that he’s in the middle of nowhere far away from civilization. It’s interesting enough, but it’s slow in developing.
