“Heretic’s Fork”

This was certainly the most briskly paced episode of the series thus far. With a suspense inducing score, the action is fairly non-stop. Ryan collects Val and brings her back to their apartment, not to talk yet but to pack and run. Val is a bit obtrusive, and with good reason. But she is convinced to run when two V guards break in and try to kill them. Ryan takes them out and the two are off.

They run to Dr. Pearlman, who Val deducts is also a V. The three of them make their way to the Thompsons, an older resistance family with the hopes of finding a place the Vs don’t know about. The R6 injected into Val makes that more difficult as the Vs can track her. Dr. Pearlman injects her with something that can mask the agent.

Meanwhile, the resistance interrogates assassin Jeffrey Barnes about why he did what he did. They eventually find out that his daugther had been in an accident and was crippled. The Vs healed her so Jeffrey has taken it on himself to take out the fifth column. It’s a nice showing of how some worship the Vs blindly.

When they find the hard drive that Jeffrey took and wiped, they realize the Vs have the names and addresses of some fifth columnists including the Thompsons that Ryan was taking Val to.

With the timeline now speeded up, Kyle has to take measures into his own hands and torture Jeffrey to get the address while Jack has to walk away.

Anna unleashes the soldier to track down Ryan and Val. And he is bad ass. The only complaint I have is the actor himself. The actor himself is just not intimidating. But I do like his skills. Such as seeing the heartbeat, the strength, agility, and recuperative skill. Watching him get axed in the chest by Hobbes only to get back up was pretty cool.

In a very nice twist, the story involving Chad and Anna heats up. Chad is healed and Anna attempts to manipulate him into investigating the fifth column. Chad goes to Jack whom he knows is discontented at best. Jack is very wary and doesn’t give much away. Chad immediately goes back to Anna to tell her that he might have something. What’s great though is that you don’t know what angle he is going for. Is he working Jack for Anna…or Anna for Jack. He’ll have to choose sides eventually but the show is doing a good job keeping him planted solidly in the middle.

And then there’s Lisa who is slipping over to the human side. Her feelings for Tyler are real and she is doing her best to keep Tyler away from Anna which is causing some friction.

Overall, it’s a show that is really finding it’s footing and is only going to get better as the war heats up and more resistance and soldiers get involved.

This was a fun epsiode and advanced the mythology, a win-win.
