“A Bright New Day”
normal_v103-100

An episode that rebounded quite nice from Second Episoditis. This episodes begins shaping character arcs as well as exploring bits and pieces of humanity and their reactions as this “friendly” invasion draws out. This episode also increases the action and the drama as we build towards the final episode of 2009. I must say that I still whole heartedly disagree with ABCs approach to stop after episode four and restart in the spring. But we’ll see what happens. There were a few plot holes/negatives to the episode but overall it was highly successful

The Vs are granted free movement throughout the United States by establishing diplomatic relations. But almost immediately there was a threat on the V Peace Ambassador Building. Erica is ironically called in to protect the Vs. After Jack comes over to talk to Erica and help her sift through possible resistance members, he points out the irony, but Erica brings up a good point. If a human kills a V, than humans will appear to be the bad guy.

Meanwhile Dale wakes up and but the trauma has erased some of his memories. He works with Joshua, a V medic to try to piece together what happened to him. But the big news is he was a sleeper agent for over 20 years!

Ryan and Georgie meet and Ryan details that the Fifth Column is down but not out and they do have their own sleeper cells. A man named John May started the Fifth Column. Everyone thinks he’s a myth, but Ryan assures Georige he’s real. Ryan tracks down Cyrus who tries to betray him, saying that the V’s promised him they’d reconnect him. Which certainly is a nice bit of information. It makes me think of the Matrix…but perhaps it is this V’s version of the conversion process.

Meanwhile Jack tracks down Georgie and leaves his card with a neighbor hoping he’ll find him.

Erica tracks down the shooter at the Ambassador center avoiding a PR nightmare, and while there discovers a secret room that is filled with surveillance videos that indicate that the V uniform acts as a recording device. This is one of the negatives though. It is awful convenient that the V’s have left this room completely unoccupied despite it being a highly secured door.

While this is going on Anna deals head on with the widow of a soldier who died upon the V’s arrival in another PR move. In one great sequence, we see Ana creepily practicing human emotions to hit just the right note to sway the widow onto their side.

Back on the mothership, Josuha and Dale figure out what happened and Dale vows to kill Erica until Joshua reveals himself to be a Fifth Column who kills Dale and plans to reach out to Erica as a potential ally.

At the end we are hit with three big moments. First off we see Ana congratualte the shooter, revealing it was all a V public relations ploy.

Then we see Tyler and Lisa share a romantic moment before Lisa heads back to the mothership where she meets Ana and says that Tyler is the one and they should use him. Ana seems happy and offers praise to Lisa who answers…Thank you, mother. Didn’t see that coming.

And then there’s the iconic meeting of the four lynchpins of the resistance in Jack’s church. Jack, Erica, Geogie, and Ryan. As a V fan it gave me goosebumps seeing the four come together as if they were Donovna, Julie, Ham, and Martin. A cool moment.

Another great episode so far in a compelling season.
