V: The Original Miniseries debuted on May 1, 1983. It was originally intended to be a political thriller in which the grass roots rise of a fascist movement took over the U.S. When NBC decided that there needed to be an outside enemy, the Soviets were considered, but ultimately rejected and eventually it was decided to have an alien invasion be the backdrop instead.

In recent emails (Feb. 2008) Kenneth Johnson has indicated that he is attempting to re-make the Original Miniseries into a film and that progress was looking good. Stay Tuned
