Pinnacle Press released the first novel, a novelization combining the original miniseries and the Final Battle, in May 1984. Pinnacle continued to churn out novels until September of 1985 for a total of 11 novels. Tor Books released a new set of V books starting with September of 1987 and running through May of 1988 for a total of 5 books. Gregg Press re-released the first 3 novels as hardcovers in 1994. Kenneth Johnson returned to the V-verse with The Second Generation published by Tor in 2008.
