“Siege”

By Cary Bates, Carmine Infantino, and Tony Dezungia

Synopsis:

Donovan and company wake up in the forest and discuss their options with Bron. Bron wants to accompany the resistance and learn more about humans. There is hesitation and suspicion about Bron’s intentions, but there isn’t many options.

Diana attacks Lydia about her blunder in attacking the resistance. Diana also takes Willie on board and decides to make a “new” Willy to replace the old one.

Lydia is stripped of her command by Phillip.

Donovan and Julie dress up like hick farmers and Bron is disguised in human form as their kid. Kyle, Elizabeth and Caleb are to lead the resistance while Donovan and Julie stick with Bron for a bit.

During their drive, they come across a landslide with someone trapped underneath rocks. With his superior strength, Bron is able to help out although everyone is made curious about Bron.

The new “Willy” is unleashed.

Analysis:

This one should move things along much more than it does, but it is still a fun read. The sidebar with the cave in was fun, but again didn’t do much for the overall plot line. It showed that Donovan was a good guy and that Bron could be good certainly.

The idea of replacing Willy with “Willy” is an obvious take but one that should have happened much sooner. But it is a good idea overall and the seeds are planted here.

The inner machinations of Diana vs. Lydia are handled well with Phillip coming off as much more of a pasty than he is in the series. Phillip is easily manipulated by Diana overall, and is really not given a whole lot to do.

Overall it is an average read and as part of the arc is certainly serviceable.

The great cover really helps the overall appeal.
