Dr. Juliet Parish was a brilliant young medical student working as a research scientist with Nobel winner, Dr. Rudolph Metz. At the time of invasion she was dating a stockbroker named Denny and was very happy in her life.
Once the aliens came and everyone was aglow with meeting an alien race for the first time, she was one of the few who from the get go remained skeptical. When Denny heard John’s original offer, he quipped, “Talk about an offer we can’t refuse!” Julie responded with, “I wonder what would happen if we did,” in an ominous tone. As time went on she grew more and more upset with how things were working especially as they started implicating scientists in a conspiracy, eventually including Dr. Metz.
It wasn’t long before she formed the first cell of what would eventually be the resistance movement of Los Angeles. She was so gung-ho, that everyone began to look to her for leadership, and though she wasn’t comfortable as a leader she took charge and really formed a unit ready to fight back.
It was suggested that Kristine Walsh be contacted as an inside person who might be sympathetic to them. Julie agreed to meet with her. It is there she first saw Donovan and saw Kristine set him up.
Later on, the resistance set their first raid for supplies, and while the truck got away, she despaired, because her good friend Ben Taylor was left behind. Leaving the truck with Brad, she drove back to get him and saw him shot. She tried to get him into the car when she got shot in the hip. She struggles but is able to get Ben in the car and drive away. Ben dies in her car later on, and she is determined to make the Visitors pay.
Later on, Donovan is brought into the resistance headquarters after he escapes the mothership. After a frank discussion with him, she hears his story about them being alien, and what their true motives are. The resistance then plan a raid to get weapons. On this raid, they are successful, but the aliens attack their mountain camp and Julie leads the crew back to the camp and fights off the alien attack, standing defiantly with a pistol against a skyfighter.
Julie hears more from Donovan’s mothership tale, including the fact that the disappeared people are on the ship and also about the alien race which had defeated the Leader before. Julie sets up a communications relay where they send out a distress signal, hopefully received by this alien race.
A few months later, Julie and Donovan lead an attack on a food processing plant that fails miserably due to the aliens armor. When Donovan suggests an event is needed, Julie puts it off, saying they should worry more about survival at the time being.
Later on when Donovan is almost caught by meeting with Kristine about his son, Julie lambastes him and tells him that if he can’t be a team member, he should leave before someone really gets hurt. It is also here that we see that Julie may have affections for Donovan.
The event comes in the form of the LA Medical center, which Julie will lead another raid on, her plan to rip off John’s phony face in front of the camera.
As plans are in motion, Willy is brought in, giving Julie someone to test to learn about the alien physiology. During one of the tests, Robin freaks out at seeing Willy’s lizard skin and demands an abortion because the father is one of them. Julie is unsure about this as the abortion could be very dangerous at this term. She attempts one, but the alien fetus won’t let itself be killed as every time Julie does something, Robin almost dies.
The raid at the Medical Center works well, until the end, when Julie is captured by Daniel Bernstein.
Julie undergoes the conversion process, which is long and strenuous. At one point she goes into cardiac arrest, but she lives through it. At the point where Julie is almost converted, a fifth columnist made to look like Donovan breaks in and attempts to free her. The fifth columnist is killed, but it does shake Julie back to a form of reality.
Upon being brought down to the Legation, the resistance spring her at the cost of Ruby’s life. Confused and unsure if she can still lead, there are moments of doubt, spurred on by militant newcomer Ham Tyler, but eventually she proves herself alright.
Donovan and her relationship blossoms further and they both are able to lead an attack on a water pumping station that would otherwise take almost all the water in southern California in a short amount of time.
Soon after Diana orchestrates a trade of Sean Donovan for Mike Donovan. Julie notices Sean acting strange and has her doubts.
When it is time for Robin to give birth, Julie helps deliver Elizabeth and then stands back in horror as the more alien child climbs out of Robin’s womb.
After the more alien child succumbs to a bacteria that Elizabeth doesn’t, Julie and Robert discover the red dust and plan to use that to drive the aliens from Earth.
Julie and Tyler fly a batch over to Hannah Donnenfield and the White Christmas group.
When Martin informs Donovan of the potential nuclear attack by the aliens if they lose, causes Julie to argue MOST strongly against attacking. She wants to find another way. She loses the vote, and defers to Donovan and Tyler who make up a plan for the attack.
Julie sees Sean spying, and comes to the conclusion that he’s been converted. She confronts Donovan with this news but he doesn’t react well to it at all, hurting Julie in the process. He apologizes later and they make up, and after changing the plan, using Sean as a decoy, they lead a successful attack on the alien mothership, taking it over but unfortunately allowing Diana to escape.
A year after the invasion, Julie has taken a position as a research scientist under Nathan Bates in Science Frontiers. Donovan and her relationship is still strong at this point.
When Elizabeth begins her transformation, Robert calls Julie for advice. Julie comes and looks at her, unsure of what to do. Elizabeth then leaves to go into her cocoon and Robert and Julie chase after her.
When Elizabeth changes to a young woman, Julie helps to get her situated when the aliens attack. Luckily the red dust takes effect, but they decide to go to the Club Creole while the aliens attack L.A. They meet with Elias and Willy.
Julie then witnesses Nathan sell out to the aliens. When she questions him, he tells her that the red dust is effect the ecology afterall.
While the resistance decides to steal the grounded mothership, Julie has to stay with Nathan to keep her cover as they realize they will need someone on the inside.
When Diana holds Kyle hostage and pressures Bates to get Elizabeth it’s up to Julie to keep her hidden. She keeps her at first at the Club Creole and then with her, calling her Betty, her cousin.
Julie helps the resistance get Elizabeth to New York. Donovan goes to Science Frontiers to get Julie to decode a message.
Later on after Donovan is kidnapped, she is upset, but realizes they have to get Elizabeth to the rendezvous point and she promises Elizabeth she’ll go, even though she risks blowing her cover.
Diana, who used trickery to get Donovan to inform, captures Ham, Elizabeth, and Julie who is wearing a motorcycle helmet. Before Diana can unmask her, Donovan drives in and saves the day.
While Donovan and Ham try to go after Sean, Elizabeth pressures Julie to take her outside, but Julie doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Kyle comes and takes her out without telling anyone and Julie freaks out.
Robin shows up finally, and Julie has to explain how Elizabeth has changed. Elizabeth makes it back and her and Kyle get the third degree from Julie before Julie tells her that Robin is there.
After Ham and Donovan get some papers from a high ranking Visitor official that tells them about a food processing conference, Julie goes up north with Donovan to scope it out. After convincing some local resistors about who they are, they plan an attack. Ham shows up with explosives and the resistance attack the conference, destroying the building and killing many of the top coordinators.
Back in L.A. Bates is aware of a leak in Science Frontiers, due to the resistance continuously knocking over their weapons shipments. Chiang suspects Julie, but Bates requires proof. After Robin and Julie have a fight, Chiang breaks in Julie’s apartment and gets that proof. With Robin’s help, they switch disks so the proof vaporates and Julie smacks Bates.
After Diana bulids up a force field, she has to have a relay within the city. When Julie tries to discover more, Bates stops her.
Later on, she realizes that in order to help, she’ll have to break into the relay center and see if she can discover Bate’s password for a secret tunnel. She does so but can’t break the code until Mike tries to talk to Kyle, which makes Julie immediately realize that the password is Kyle.
During the Christmas season, Willy attempts to sing carols before being bullied by an alien who starts playing the national anthem. Julie sings America the Beautiful over the top in a dueling fashion, inspiring all the people in the Club to sing with her, forcing the aliens to leave.
Bates’ had a underling at the scene who took pictures of Julie being friendly with Donovan and Tyler and Bates decides to force her hand, telling her he is going to destroy the Club Creole. Julie calls to warn, but Bates had her phone hooked up to always call him. She has to escape.
When she gets to the Club, she sees it explode and she is upset, thinking all her friends were killed. Donovan quickly comes up to assure her of the truth.
After Ham and Kyle are captured while attempting to destroy the converter, Donovan and Julie kidnap Lydia in order to find out where Ham and Kyle is.
After discovering, she goes with Donovan and Willy to free Tyler. She has a heart to heart with Ham about the conversion process. Later on the Visitors offer to trade Kyle for Lydia and Julie helps Mike and Tyler work out a plan for it.
After Ham shoots Bates, Julie tries to save him, but Donovan makes her leave.
At this time, Julie decides she needs a break. She takes a solo journey to Tucson, back to the town where she grows up. It’s deserted, but she likes it. An old neighbor, possibly an old flame, Judd Andrews shows up as well and Julie isn’t sure to trust him, but she ends up working with him. When an alien skyfighter attacks, Judd helps her out before he disappears again. Julie heads back to L.A., refreshed.
Back in L.A., she goes with Donovan to destroy a communications center before forcing two Visitors to crash land in the mountains, where the red dust should have finished them off. She also helps Donovan get out of a tricky situation by driving a getaway vehicle. She then goes with him to destroy a commune farm full of an herb that Diana was using to create a new red dust.
After Lt. James attacks Science Frontiers under the guise of the resistance, Mr. Chiang takes the Caniff Printing Press owners hostage and announces that the resistance leaders have to turn themselves in or else a hostage will be turned over to the Visitors.
Julie begins to search for the hostages, until Donovan brings in Mrs. Caniff who tells them where the hostages are. After Elias is killed, Julie helps Willy pull it together and then helps plan a rescue.
Julie goes with Ham and Elizabeth to secure the back door and get the hostages out while Kyle, Willy, and Donovan provide the distraction.
Not too long afterwards, Willy is shot. Somehow Willy is able to make it back to the Club Creole, where Julie is able to stabilize him. She can’t do more than that though due to his alien physiology. Donovan and Tyler get a Visitor medical student named Howie to help. She bonds with Howie, who turns out to be a Fifth Columnist. After he informs them that Charles is moving weapons into the Open City, she joins Donovan, Tyler, Robin, Willy, and Langley to attack the medical center, where they overcome Langley’s betrayal, to destroy the weapons.
After Ham, Chris, and Robin, leave for Chicago, the resistance discover an alien plot, involving papnium, a metal dense enough that it can prevent the red dust from penetrating it. Julie has a sample and needs to get it to a doctor in Washington DC, where the Jones family is heading. She goes to Matt Jones and convinces him to take the sample with them.
Soon afterwards an old friend, Alan Davis, shows up asking for advice on how to deliver his child, as his wife is pregnant and near delivery. Julie and Kyle go with him. They get involved in a standoff, until Donovan can rescue them. Julie helps deliver Victoria.
Sometime after Julie injures her neck and has to stay on the sideline for a bit, until a diphtheria plague strikes. She struggles to find a cure, and even has Kyle and Willy recruit a gang to help them. After the resistance gets some medicine, they bring it back to Julie who discovers that it’s baking soda instead of ampicillan. Julie concludes that there is a spy. She has Kye call Donovan to see if he can get some ampicillan from L.A.
After Ellen (one of the Wildcats gang) runs off from Willy, they all go to look for her. Julie goes back after some medical equipment, and discovers that Andy (another Wildcat) was the spy. Julie leads the crew to the airstrip, where Donovan is going to land knowing the aliens will be waiting for them. With help from Andy, Donovan is able to get down safely to deliver the medicine.
At this point it is important to note that Donovan and Julie’s relationship has lessened to good friend status. It is really unclear how or when it happened.
Later on, Philip warns them of a list of Fifth Columnists that has been hidden on the ship. The Fifth Column can’t risk being detected by being spotted looking for the list, so Donovan and Julie go aboard the mothership. Julie meets an old flame, named Steven Maitland who is working as a double agent on the mothership. He is planning to get rid of all the active viruses that the Visitors have brought from the home planet.
While Julie and Donovan are looking for the list they run into Diana who pegs them. They escape because Philip had the foreknowledge to have them wear lizard masks and then masks of their own face over them. This shocks Diana but they leave.
Julie then attempts to find the list in James quarters, but Diana finds her again and this time she knows. Diana holds Julie captive hoping to get her to turn on Philip and get Donovan to come to her.
Donovan does rescue her after a diversion, and Julie finds the list. They then go destroy the viruses allowing Maitland to leave with them. Julie and Maitland have grown really close to the point where Julie is ready to leave the resistance for him, but he won’t let her. Julie goes back with Donovan and company.
When Lt. James attacks, she is backed into a corner in an alley with Donovan, Kyle, Elizabeth, and Willy when the Philip’s voice rings loud and clear to “Cease all hostilities.”
Julie goes to the mothership for the peace negotiations. The Leader wants to meet with Elizabeth and Julie will stand by her side. When James sets assassins to destroy the shuttle, it seems that the resistance will be arrested again. Fortunately Philip had the forethought to have the Leader arrive in a second shuttle. Diana played her hand, and now was going to pay. Julie joins the search party, trying to track her down. While Philip, Kyle, Donovan, and Elizabeth try one route, Willy and Julie attempt to break onto the bridge through the ventilation shafts.
After Diana is captured, Elizabeth goes to meet the Leader, and Julie watches as they fly off and discover that Kyle stowed away.
TIMELINE 1B:
After the Final Battle, Julie is a key factor in bringing Diana back on board while the rest of the crew have to determine who among the loyalists they can trust to fix the broken mothership.
Julie threatens to convert Diana, but then decides she won’t be a party to torture. Julie attempts to bring down some of the humans in stasis, but is arrested by underlings of a converted Lt. Governor. After being sprung by Ham, Julie helps the resistance re-capture Diana and restore the non-converted Governor to power.
Back in L.A. Julie helps out a Science Frontier science camp work on a better red dust. She sets them up and then heads back to the resistance, where she feels sick.
She believes she is pregnant with Mike’s child. She confides into Robin, but won’t tell Donovan yet. She is not ready for it, with the world at war. She’s very confused.
Julie pieces together Diana’s plan for a defoliant that would destroy the ecology of the oceans, and is determined that they stop this plan for everyone’s sake.
She finally gets some alone time with Mike, when his ex-wife shows up.
As Margie and Mike get closer, and she becomes more a member of the resistance, Julie grows more and more jealous. As she is about to confront Mike about it, Margie betrays them by locating their base. Julie recognizes instantly that Margie’s been converted. After Margie escapes, the resistance plan an attack to stop Diana’s defoliant. Julie goes on the mission which almost fails due to Margie, but with help from Elizabeth, it is a success, although Julie has a miscarriage. She tells Donovan afterwards and they support each other.
Later on, Julie helps lead a raid on a Visitor transport, where they free three international resistance members. While Donovan and Tyler take one of them up to a small town where he will get a ride back to Japan, Julie stays behind to get a shipment of power packs. Elizabeth pleads with her not to go, that she will be hurt.
Eventually Julie accedes to Elizabeth’s request and it’s a good thing she does because Nathan Bates is waiting on the ship, so her cover at Science Frontiers would have been blown.
After hearing from a Fifth Columnist that Donovan and Ham are being ambushed, Julie grabs Willy and Elias and heads to the rescue and they are successful.
TIMELINE 1C:
After the Club Creole was established, Julie went with Willy, Donovan, Boyce, and Hart on a captured skyfighter out to take a test run when they are spotted by a Visitor patrol. They evade the fighter, but their fighter breaks down forcing Donovan to perform an emergency landing outside a small town. The resistance soon discovers that the whole town has made a deal with the Visitors to keep them happy. As they walk through town, Donovan knocks out the town bully, impressing a young boy named Billy who ends up befriending the resistance. The town is not impressed and they take Donovan, Hart and Julie prisoner while Willy and Boyce hide out and are able to spring them later on. After Billy is killed by the Visitors, they are able to convince the town to join them and throw off their shackles.
Back in L.A., Donovan and Julie are dancing when they see a program about Dr. Earl Meagan, someone Julie admires a great deal. Julie wants to bring Earl into the resistance.
After Donovan picks up Meagan, it is quickly discovered by Julie that he is slightly mad. Having inserted a nuclear device into his brain, Meagan is prepared to destroy the mothership if Diana betrays him. Donovan and Willy sneak aboard the Mothership, in order to stop Meagan. Julie grows nervous and can’t wait anymore, and decides to fly a skyfighter up to see what has been happening. When she gets in space, Donovan informs her of the situation…and then Meagan pulls a gun on him. Julie tries to talk some sense into Meagan, but Meagan tells them that the bomb should already have gone off so there’s no way to stop it. The resistance gets into Julie’s fighter, and Meagan stays in another. Meagan does not make it back to the ship, and blows up in space.
After Julie goes on a sabbatical and then returns, the resistance travels to New York to help instruct the New York City people in terms of the latest in Visitor technology and what the lizards are up to. Diana, coincidentally enough has a plan in motion to keep NYC eternally warm, thus destroying the red dust. In addition Lydia sends out an assassin to kill Donovan. The assassin finds Donovan who forces Julie to leave. Donovan is able to defeat him using his own technology against him. The resistance then helps to defeat Diana’s plot before returning to Los Angeles.
At this point, the resistance have set up a new base, when a skyfighter crashes near them. Donovan and Willy go out to scope the damage when they discover a little lizard in stasis. He is someone important, Willy says due to the markings on the tube. Once brought back to the base, Elizabeth makes the discovery that this is the Leader’s son, Bron. At this time, a traitor had betrayed the resistance and Lydia launched an attack on the base. The resistance is forced to flee and Donovan takes Bron with them. Donovan and Julie decide to split from the main group and put Kyle and Elizabeth in charge of building a new headquarters, while they drive Bron away from Los Angeles and put him in a human mask. Bron confesses that he is wearing a pendant that could be used to locate him. The Visitors have tracked him down but Donovan is able to get them away from the pursuing skyfighter. Eventually Donovan, Julie, and Bron arrive in a small town where the adults have been taken and the kids are running the joint under the oldest kid, Bozz. The kids flock to Donovan and Julie as adults, making Bozz upset. When Bozz reveals that Bron is a Visitor, they quickly revert back to Bozz and keep them hostage, while the Visitors show up. An explosion breaks out Donovan and Julie and they help to fight back the Visitors, but Bron sacrifices himself, to save them. Bron’s death sparks the Leader to stop the war. The resistance makes their way back to Los Angeles and reunites.
TIMELINE 1D:
After Kyle stows away, Julie goes with Donovan who plans on meeting with Tyler to help him look for Sean. Suddenly the alarm goes off and the resistance is placed under arrest again as the Leader’s shuttle explodes. Kyle materializes with them in the cell before Thelma is able to spring them.
They make their way down to the landing bay when James discovers them and shoots and kills Julie.
TIMELINE 1E:
Although not mentioned in the first three acts, in interviews JMS stated that Julie was brought back to the home planet as a POW.
TIMELINE 2:
After sending the signal out to the Visitor’s enemy, Julie went on to grow close to Donovan and lead the resistance. Sometime along the way she delivered a half-breed baby, whose mother died. Julie adopted the baby, naming her Ruby after old friend Ruby (Brown) Engels who was killed earlier.
Julie helps indoctrine Nathan into the resistance, while also maintaining communications with the resistance cells around the world.
Upon Willy’s suggestion, Julie and Margarita attempt to persuade Emma to join their cause and spy on Visitor high command. Emma agrees to at least watch their propaganda video.
Soon after Willy calls Julie about a prisoner that he and Martin rescued from the mothership. Julie is shocked to discover that it’s Donovan.
After bringing him back to the headquarters, Julie begins to try to rehabilitate him from the drugs Diana made him dependent on. She is upset to learn how bitter he’s become.
She hears from Emma that she is in, but is soon after distraught as she learns that Ruby not only went on a raid, but got lost during it. She was excited though to meet the Zedti, but it is all overshadowed by Ruby. After Ruby didn’t show by morning, she got very concerned.
Julie helps piece together that the Visitors are developing skins to look like Zedti as well as chemical weapons to work on Zedti.
It is discovered that Ruby is being held by the Visitors. Julie tries to run off, but she is stopped, as Nathan argues that that is exactly what the Visitors want. Nathan and the Zedti lead a successful rescue mission.
Julie leads a mission, designed to disrupt the Leader’s landing, where they would hijack the video feed and play the video recorded by the Secretary General of the United Nations, along with portions of Donovan’s tape, etc. Diana pulls a fast one due to the camera she implanted in Donovan’s eye. Julie is arrested and put in a food stasis chamber where she remained until Donovan’s plan to free all the captives to take over the mothership.
After taking over, Julie broadcasts to the world, and then watches as the Zedti fly in. She stays with the still-recovering Donovan who has to break the news of Ruby’s death during the battle.

NOVELS:
- V: The Second Generation
Ruby is a halfbreed who was born to a young woman who died in childbirth. She is adopted by Julie and raised within the resistance where she becomes the Artful Dodger of the resistance.
She first sees Nathan as he is fleeing a squadron. Offering her help, she shows Nathan a way out of the streets and into the resistance.
As Nathan and Margarita run a plan to break out some fellow resistance fighters, Ruby sneaks after them mostly due to a crush she has on Nathan. During the ensuing firefight Ruby was captured by the Visitors.
With help from the Zedti, the resistance broke her out before they got to interrogating her, and brought her back to the headquarters.
She bonded with the two female Zedti. She bonded with Bryke first over their age as she’s surpised to learn that Bryke was twelve as well. She also bonded with Kayta over trying to get Mike Donovan back on his feet and back in fighting spirit.
During the resistance raid on the Candlestick Park event, and after Donovan is discovered to have a camera inside him, Ruby leads an escape for Donovan and Kayta.
She goes along with Donovan’s plan to bust out the captives on the mothership to take over the alien vessel. The plan involved switching some components in order to stop brainwashing the captives, and start instilling resistance. However the components were in an area that was well below zero degrees. Only a Visitor could handle it, but when Willy was pulled away, and Kayta could only do so much, Ruby goes in to finish the job although it costs her her life.
