Wow! What a season finale. The show has really been picking up steam and the final episode kicks into gear for the next season. The high point of the show is the fact that we still don’t know who is on what side. It’s been very vague at times and both sides have people who are switching allegiences.

Picking up right where “Hearts and Minds” left off, the show continues to improve on most levels. From Anna’s manipulation of the media to the evolution of Lisa as a possible fifth columnist to the complications of Hobbes’ character the show has made itself a complete series, hopefully one worthy of renewal.

This was certainly the most briskly paced episode of the series thus far. With a suspense inducing score, the action is fairly non-stop. Ryan collects Val and brings her back to their apartment, not to talk yet but to pack and run. Val is a bit obtrusive, and with good reason. But she is convinced to run when two V guards break in and try to kill them. Ryan takes them out and the two are off.

Not quite as good as the previous installment, We Can’t Win still takes the series a bit forward. However it’s not without a little hokey sci-fi which the show will need to avoid to be taken seriously.

The mystery is solved. John May lives. John May lives. Who the hell is John May? We got tantalizing hints all along about John May starting the fifth column, and how dangerous he was. We learn that Michael Trucco was cast as John May.

A very focused episode, “Pound of Flesh” explores one human emotion. Dedication. Whether it be mother to daughter, father to son, man to woman, friend to friend, and even alien to alien. Everything is quickly becoming entangled as the great railroad starts chugging at a faster pace towards the inevitable all out war.

New showrunner, new episodes. Any changes? Yes. While I had no problem with the first four episodes in November, this one took the ball and ran with it. The pace is faster, the world seems a bit more epic. And business is about to pick up.

The second episode of the series has typical second second troubles. Without the big bang of the arrival and coupled with the having to more establish groundwork before the series goes running again, it’s typical to have a slower second episode and V is no exception. Although in a good attempt to waylay that we start with a mini-action sequence following up from the warehouse sequence of the pilot.

“Pilot”

Triumphant. After all these years and struggles to bring V back to the screen, the wait has definitely been worth it. The premiere wasn’t quite note perfect, but there was far more good than bad in my mind. The opening segment drew me in quite well despite knowing the gist of what was about to happen. The special effects were well done indeed. When a plane crashes into New York City, it is genuinely spooky.
