Wow! What a season finale. The show has really been picking up steam and the final episode kicks into gear for the next season. The high point of the show is the fact that we still don’t know who is on what side. It’s been very vague at times and both sides have people who are switching allegiences.

This was certainly the most briskly paced episode of the series thus far. With a suspense inducing score, the action is fairly non-stop. Ryan collects Val and brings her back to their apartment, not to talk yet but to pack and run. Val is a bit obtrusive, and with good reason. But she is convinced to run when two V guards break in and try to kill them. Ryan takes them out and the two are off.

Not quite as good as the previous installment, We Can’t Win still takes the series a bit forward. However it’s not without a little hokey sci-fi which the show will need to avoid to be taken seriously.

New showrunner, new episodes. Any changes? Yes. While I had no problem with the first four episodes in November, this one took the ball and ran with it. The pace is faster, the world seems a bit more epic. And business is about to pick up.

The second episode of the series has typical second second troubles. Without the big bang of the arrival and coupled with the having to more establish groundwork before the series goes running again, it’s typical to have a slower second episode and V is no exception. Although in a good attempt to waylay that we start with a mini-action sequence following up from the warehouse sequence of the pilot.

Today, the world woke up to find spaceships over every major city. The Visitors claim to have come in peace, bringing gifts of medical miracles and technological breakthroughs. They promise to do no harm. They’re lying. Most people believe the aliens have arrived just when we needed them most. We’re eager to embrace their generous offers of help, but while tracking a terrorist cell, Homeland Security agent Erica Evans stumbles upon something far more sinister. When her partner tries to kill her, Erica discovers that the aliens have plans to infiltrate our governments and businesses, planting seeds for their plot to control mankind. Convincing anyone of the truth will be impossible because the Visitors have two powerful weapons. First, they’ve given the people faith with their reassuring presence and gifts. Second, they’ve rallied our youth. Thousands of teens, including Erica’s son, have been recruited as ‘Peace Ambassadors’ but they’re actually serving as unwitting spies. Erica’s violent introduction to the truth thrusts her into the resistance movement, where she joins forces with Ryan, a rogue alien driven to save humanity. She’ll have to balance her covert activities with her job, and her role as a mother, fighting to protect her son Tyler even as he joins forces with the enemy. Stefan Arngrim has been cast as Roy, a parishoner of Father Lowery who was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair until the Visitors healed him. Arngrim is a genre TV vet with roles in X-Files, Highlander, and Battlestar Galactica.

Christopher Shyer from The Practice and Monk has been cast as Marcus, Anna’s top aide. This was the final piece of the major casting puzzle.

VISITORS AMONG US: What’s your feeling about your character, Ryan, who The Hollywood Reporter revealed was actually a Visitor?

MORRIS CHESTNUT: Without me giving too much away, Ryan is going to be doing a lot of different things and wearing a lot of different hats, so to speak, which is what got me excited about him. I think there are a lot of possibilities in terms of what can be done with him.

VISITORS AMONG US: I know you said there are all kinds of possibilities, but the fact that Ryan’s torn between what he really is and the life he’s trying to build on earth, as an actor I would imagine that gives you a lot of opportunity.

MORRIS CHESTNUT: Without giving away too much, there are going to be a lot of challenges from what the producers and writers have told me. That was one of the things that drew me to it. This show is not a straight down the middle show, it’s not a procedural show. It’s not a cop drama or a lawyer drama. There are a lot of things that we’re going to be able to do with this show, and my role in particular, some of the challenges I’m going to be presented with as an actor, is something I’m really looking forward to. This is my first true science fiction project. I keep using words like exciting and intriguing and challenging, but it really is. Like I was down there on the set last week, and you see all these half space ships and you’re shooting against green screen and there’s nothing behind you and you’re wearing a space outfit – like I said, it’s all very exciting!

Lourdes Benedicto has joined the cast of V as Valerie Holt!  The actress has previously acted with Scott Wolf in The Nine.

Meanwhile Logan Huffman has landed the role of Tyler Evans.   He was seen in America. 

Finally Tyler’s friend Brandon is going to be portrayed by a Jesse Wheeler.
