News: Scott Peters to remake V; Johnson continues to work on Film

A few days late on this, but there has been Earth-Shaking news in the V-verse…it seems that V has taken a big step in it’s return to television…but without Kenneth Johnson. Johnson has been trying for years to get a film or telefilm of his novel, V: The Second Generation. He had relented to making an updated film adaption of his first mini-series to follow with V: TSG.

But now, Variety reports that ABC has given the green light to develop a reimagined V, much like the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. Scott Peters (of 4400 fame) is the man chosen to develop the new franchise along with HDFilms principal, Jace Hall. They will be doing a new storyline based on the franchise’s spirit…

But even without the same storyline, the original “V’s” bones will remain: As in the ’80s version, the show will open with an enormous army of spaceships hovering over the world’s major cities. The visitors say they’ve come to help Earth, but their motives are nefarious (in the original, they wanted to steal the world’s water supply).

In a TV Guide report:

You won’t be seeing cameraman Mike Donovan (Marc Singer) and hot doctor Juliet Parrish (Faye Grant) at the center of this series. Instead, the main focus will be on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son has some serious problems. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them — which causes major tension in her family. If you’ve seen the original, you know it just gets worse from there.

From Yahoo:

Original V mastermind Kenneth Johnson, the über-producer who also created The Bionic Woman, The Incredible Hulk and Alien Nation, had previously tried to get a new V off the ground, but he is not involved in the new incarnation.

“I was convinced that V should be a movie,” he tells E! News. “I discovered that Warner controlled the TV rights. I, as the creator, own the motion picture rights to V. Virtually all the majors wanted to do it…and pay me a lot of money to write and produce a $200 million tentpole.”

So Kenneth Johnson is trying to still move forward with his vision…so perhaps we’ll get dueling V’s!

In an unrelated video with Jace Hall this poster was found…is it a clue of what’s to come?
