Eventually the show may run out of artifacts, but for now even if they get a bit more foolish, they still have a certain coolness factor to it.

Unfortunately the episode is nothing more than a little coolness factor.

Coolness #1 – The main artifact of the week is Edgar Allan Poe’s pen and notebook.

Coolness #2 – Meeting Myka’s parents – especially the previously discussed gruff father who…

Coolness #3 – is played by Saul Tigh himself, Michael Hogan!

But beyond the little sprinkling of coolness this in fact boils down to a bag it tag it week with only Myka’s personal stake making it any different than the usual.

The story involving the boy who steals the pen is unnotable A young geeky boy with a crush suddenly gets the power to make things happen and tries to use it to kill his rival and win the girl.

Unfortunately he is written as a good guy so his transformation seems awkward at best especially as there is no reason given like the pen corrupts the soul or some such nonsense. It all becomes a bit fantastical and is certainly a step back from what had been happening in the Warehouse 13 universe.

Myka’s father receives the notebook which affects him more and more powerfully causing him to be in pain and losing his mind. It also reduced Hogan to a nearly nothing type of role.

Then they force a tie into the MacPherson saga saying that Macpherson sent her father the book.

OBJECTS OF THE WEEK:

1. Tiny Cymbals – They contain superstrong supersonic bursts of soundwaves
2. Aforementioned Edgar Allan Poe’s Notebook and Pen – They allow the user to write down what they want to happen and voila…
3. Jack The Ripper’s Lantern – Those who look into it become immobile and they forget what happened after it is removed.
