Review: Warehouse 13 1.02

“Resonance”

Not there yet. After the lengthy somewhat disjointed pilot, I was very curious to see where the Warehouse would take us yet. And it didn’t take us too far…but perhaps began to lay some groundwork. On the surface, I fear that the episodes may start to all blend together into a pattern.
New and strange device causing havoc.
Weird and wondeful devices used by our agents in the Warehouse to show that they have really cool stuff.
Our team gets the device back.
The device in question this time is an unreleased record by a composer who has gone a little loopy. It seems the recording is so powerful, that if resonated properly it can cause extreme joy to whomever hears it. So much so that they will do nothing at all, allowing perpetrators to take whatever they want from the people…that works well against bank tellers.
It’s at least an interesting concept…but the problem with the supernatural…it can become a definite crutch. With a show like Fringe to counteract…they might stretch the bounds of plausibility but at least they have some kind of basis to be able to stretch. In Warehouse 13, it will be whatever the plot needs the device to do, it will do. I’m not certain how much I like that aspect.
There is some character development as we learn a little more about Myca’s life. We learn she had a tough father and it was confrimed she was having an affair with a fellow agent who died at the museum in the pilot. Little tidbits are there, but not enough to get me fully engaged with the characters yet.
Tricia Helfer guest stars as an FBI agent also tracking the bank robberies…but besides some banter with Lattimer, is useless…well as much as eye candy like Helfer can be useless.
The only thing of note in this second episode does raise some hope for the series. There is a security breach at Warehoue 13′s computer system and Artie does his best to track it down. He traces it to Myca and Lattimer’s old boss, but it seems that it was a dead end and there is more to the story than meets the eye.
Conspiracy is good, especially if it lays some kind of groundwork for a more overall arc. This is the kind of show that will need an overall arc to stick around as the whole previously mentioned blending will get old quick enough.
So, not much better but a start….possible.
