“Safe”
Review: Fringe 1.10 f110 257x300

Well it certainly didn’t take long. An episode after the series took a breather, it ramped back up to rollercoaster speed in “Safe”. It starts out typically enough with the prologue detailing what Fringe event our team would be tackling this episode.

Mitchell Loeb leads a team of bank robbers as they use the technology discovered in “The Equation” to walk through solid walls and into highly secure vaults. They are looking for a specific security deposit box and get out but one of the men is left behind as they run out of time and the man is caught in the wall as it resolidifies.

Walter, of course doesn’t take long to figure it out amidst his general chaotic tangents, and Dunham realizes she recognizes the person in the wall.

Back in Germany David Robert Jones’ attorney meets with him and informs him of his team’s success. Jones wires $100,000 to their account and tells his attorney to procure a few items before his next meeting.

Dunham goes to question the dead man’s wife to see if she can help fill in some of the blanks but is shocked to discover that it isn’t actually her that rememberd the man at all, it was a John Scott memory that she mixed up with hers.

Dunham’s search continues and during the journey, it becomes more important to the viewer to see Peter and her interaction. Bonding over drinks and card tricks, it’s great to see something happening as they both obviously need someone to lean on. But mostly it’s great to see them for a few moments out of action mode.

It doesn’t last long but that’s alright. After Dunham proves her mind’s ability to memorize numbers by naming off the Fibonacci sequence, Peter is surprised realizing that that is what Walter always chants before he goes to sleep.

After that bit of mind jogging we realize that the safe deposit boxes are Walter’s, although he can’t remember where the last one would be, or what they even are.

After a little more time, Walter is able to remember where the last box is and the team is off. They get there a little late but are able to nab one of the team.

At first the suspect is uncooperative but after Peter realizes that he has radiation poisoning from the wall walking, he is able to convince him to help.

At this point Walter remembers what was in the boxes. He explains to Peter that Peter once had a rare form of bird flu, so he wanted to build a teleportation device that he could go back in time to meet the one doctor who cured the particular form. He states he never had to use the device since Peter miraculously recovered.

Dunham puts 2 + 2 together to realize that Loeb had something going on at Little Field and races to the scene but is apprehended by Loeb’s agents on the way, on Jones’ order.

Jones’ lawyer arrives in Germany and gives him his objects. Jones proceeds to snap his neck, change into the laywer’s suit and teleport from Germany to Little Hill where he knows Dunham is awaiting him.

Overall this was a fast and frenetically paced midseason finale that lived up to the hype. It sparks the new direction and solidifies Jones as the villain of the Fringe team while opening the team to many new questions, serving as both an answering point while laying groundwork for the rest of the season.
