“Power Hungry”
Review: Fringe 1.05 GW600H337 300x168

A minor stepback…or rather just a stagnating episode. After taking some steps to solidify a throughline for the show, Power Hungry was more of the same filler type episode.

As we are still unaware as to who might be the mastermind behind the Pattern, we are left with these week to week villains experimenting on humans.

This week, a local schlub courrier employee who stalks a local secretary, is discovered to be able to release a devastaingly dangerous amount of electromagnetic energy although he can’t control it. It goes off when he gets emotional and elevators drive into the ground, killing people.

Of course Walter knows what’s going on. And of course he’s slow to explain it, but that’s part of Walter’s charm.

Meanwhile Dunham is still seeing John and Charlie tells her that it’s okay. She’s been through a lot and her mind has to work some of it out. Of course he doesn’t realize how real John is to Dunham. In fact he talks to her and tells her he loved her and shows her the way to some of his secret files that leads them to a Dr. Fischer who is behind the experiments.

After the Fringe team figure out who the schlub is that caused the accidents, Walter is able to figure out a way to track him down by using homing pigeons to focus on his electromagnetic signature that he gives off in waves.

Dunham and Walter also share a moment where Walter figures out what is going on and offers the explanation that her time in the tank, synchronized to John has allowed some of his consciousness to transfer over to her.

The files aren’t all that Dunham finds in the secret room….she also finds a wedding ring.

These instances with John are by far the meat of this episode. The schlub is not likable enough to garner any real sympathy and therefore it was very hard to care about his story.

Overall a mediocre episode used to fill time.
