Review: The 4400 3.01 + 3.02 thenewworld16

We open with Dennis Ryland testifying in court about promicin inhibitors and takes full responsibility.  During the trial, his lawyer suddenly stabs in the chest, invoking memories of TJ Kim who had turned the NTAC office into a raging maelstrom of male aggression.

And with good reason as it was TJ who had learned to focus her ablilities after the promicin debacle was ended.

Soon after Ryland’s co-conspirators are all killed as the Nova Group announces itself as a radical 4400 group bent on protecting 4400 and on changing the world.

NTAC brings in Gary Navarro, the mind reader from the beginning of Season 2.   Gary has been helping the NSA all around the world hunt down dangerous 4400ers with his mind reading abilities.

Meanwhile Shawn brings Richard to Isabelle and he rightfully freaks out.  But it gets worse when he goes back to his room and finds an older woman lying on the floor next to their bed who claims she’s Lily.  We discover that Isabelle’s sudden aging has somehow forced Lily to age rapidly as well and if they can’t reverse it or halt it, Lily will die.  The only way that can be determined as possibly halting it is if Isabelle were to die and Lily won’t allow that.

When Diana goes to see Kevin Burkhoff she discovers that he is injecting the promicin into his own body.  It’s an interesting turn as Burkhoff needs more to do.  He is one of the show’s strength, as his quirkiness really helps the show quite a bit.

Gary leads Diana and Tom around and points him in the direction of someone who fits the description of the leader of the Nova group.   When they find him they discover that he has been in the morgue for a bit…too long to be in the Nova group.  They quickly realize that Gary has been deceiving them.

Isabelle decides to save her mother by jumping off the top of the 4400 center, but she doesn’t die.  She heals almost immediately.

We flash to Gary who is with Ryland as he awakens.  Gary injects Ryland with something and walks out leaving Ryland in a seizure.

After calling it in, they are able to get to Ryland before it’s too late and they are able to capture Gary.  Gary is taken back by the NSA and they torture him to get to the rest of the Nova group.  In the meanwhile the Nova try to pump some more money out of Shawn who initially funded the group, thinking they were doing good.

Shawn turns them in and they are able to capture TJ Kim.

Meanwhile Kevin’s goals to create an ability for himself is underway and he is able to convince Diana to help him monitor the situation.

Isabelle stays with Shawn and gets him to teach her as much as he can about the world.  Able to read, she can get so much information but she still is naive.

I honestly don’t like this development.  I didn’t like it in V, and I like it about as much here.  But if it gets rid of Lily..I’m all for it.  Matthew gives her a serum that will kill her, and maybe save Lily so she considers it.

The 19th comes and instead of an attack that was promised, they instead give a gift,  a thousand acre barren land is transformed into fertile land, tricking most people into convincing them they are a good agency.  Tom doesn’t buy it and he looks at it more cynically, that they just shown that they can do so much and the world can’t do a think to stop them.

Richard and Lily make it back to their cabin from Season 2, where Lily surprisingly dies in Richard’s company.

Wow I was surprised at that.  She was such a central part of the show that I was surprised at how quickly she was gone.

Not that I was complaining because she was so boring and annoying.

And no mention of Jordan.

It was an alright opening, no real mistakes, just not very well paced or focused.
