Is 3D a gimmick? Maybe, and in this case probably, however I really enjoyed the gimmick. Brendan Fraser always seems to be able to bring believability to a character, especially some sort of scientist. Maybe it was his role in The Mummy and his reprise of that role. I don’t know, nor do I really care, I was too busy watching the special effects.

Other than Brendan Fraser, the acting was worse than in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. A kid who acts all smug at first but then cozies up to his uncle. It just didn’t make sense story wise, but I can understand that in order to get to the visual effects, a few plot lines need to be brushed away.

I absolutely loved the visual effects. This was the first time ever seeing a 3D movie(sorry I missed spykids) and I was loving it as much as the rest of the people in the theater were. The roller coaster ride was intense as things seem to fly at you. Rain drops were pouring right in front of your face, animals flew at you. What more could you ask for? Besides a plot line and better acting, not too much. Maybe some of the continuity errors in the writing could be taken care of.

All in all, I think it’s a good movie, well deserving of the grade I will give it. I would definitely tell you to see it in the theater though. Even with a high def big screen TV, I don’t believe it will be the same.

If this grade was based on visual effects alone, I would give it an A+. However, since there was a story line and a lot of continuity errors, and crappy acting by the supporting cast, I have to be kind to give it a

B-
