“.07%” suffers greatly from from impatience. The story is well on it’s final lap towards the climactic final battle and with that in mind, it seems as if this episode sloooooooooooooows it down a bit. The pacing is a bit off, and with just a tease of Sylar vs. Peter which actually sums up the episode. We know where it’s going and we just can’t stand the waiting game. Even the bits it does give us, tend not to have the dramatic weight they should for some reason.
Linderman shares his vision with Nathan. Claiming to once been a part of heroes, he grew tired of saving the world one life at a time. He wants now to save the world as a whole and if it means wiping out .07% of the world’s population to do so, than that’s what has to happen. The plan is simple, involving using Peter as a bomb in New York which will unite under Nathan, promoting him to president. Nathan is getting his temptation and Linderman is his Palpatine. There is an Isaac Mendez painting of Nathan in the White House that Linderman refers to.
Angela Petrelli doesn’t let Claire get her footing before telling her that she knows all about powers and that they both have to leave for Paris, at least until things get settled down here in New York. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…it’s a long way from shoplifting socks. I’m not sure why I fixate on that, but it bothers me how much she has changed.
Peter’s head heals from Sylar’s attack, shocking the villain. He knocks Sylar back and turns invisible. In order to find him, Sylar takes a ton of broken shards on the floor and sends them flying in all direction and one hits Peter in the back of his head, embedding into his flesh, so Peter goes down. Mohinder though seizes the opportunity and is able to knock Sylar unconscious from behind. Sylar comes to discovering that Mohinder has screwed up the bulletin board leaving Sylar with no list to follow, but he does find the name and address of Isaac.
Soon after Mohinder arrives at the Petrelli house bearing Peter’s lifeless body. Ok. Before I get to the scene, Mohinder is able to drag the corpse of his friend crosstown over to Angela’s house? I mean it’s possible but seemed strange.
Isaac gives the last issue of 9th Wonders to a courrier who is a fanatic of the series, He then gives him his sketchbook, declaring that this was the end of 9th Wonders. He turns and looks at a painting depicting his own death
Nathan and Claire meet and share a nice father-daughter moment, but he urges her to go to Paris for now and then she will be able to come home to her family.
Bennet is in a holding cell and Candace “dresses” as Claire to try to fool him, but he doesn’t fall for it a second time. After he is left alone, he reaches out to Matt’s thoughts and is able to guide him into leading a daring escape and rescue of Ted. After they bust out, he tells them about a tracking station in New York that they have to destroy or else they’ll never be free.
Linderman wants to bring Micah in on a job, but Jessica won’t even think about it. Not wanting to take no for an answer, Linderman goes to plan B, which is having Candace “dress” as Niki/Jessica and bring Micah in. Micah knows something is up, but plays along.
With nowhere left to turn Mohinder joins the Company as the best choice for getting revenge on Sylar.
We get to the meat of the episode finally when Sylar confronts Isaac. Isaac is calm and at ease, as he tells Sylar the paintings are gone. Sylar is angry and crucifies him on the ground with his brushes. Isaac, at peace, declares he has done a ton wrong in his life and he can die now a hero with this act of defiance.
Sylar does his thing with Isaac and soon he is painting himself in the White House in a distorted version of the Nathan painting from earlier.
Then we jump to what we really wanted to see…and like most everything in this episode it’s a tease.
Hiro and Ando find themselves on top of the Deveaux Building, five years into the future. New York is destroyed. Hiro thinks that Isaac should be alive this time and goes to find him.
What he finds is Bad Ass Future Hiro.
Overall, it’s not a bad episode and I’m a bit harsher in my assessment due to where it is placed but it comes off as an average episode, but more annoying as we hurry up and wait.
