Review: Heroes 1.13

Claude and Peter have a nice conversation and Peter becomes invisible. Claude calls him one of “those” and storms off, leaving Peter suddenly visible. From the get go, these two have chemistry. Claude’s bitterness, and Peter’s naivety work well together.
Meanwhile we get a realistic look at Parkman and his wife making a game out of his powers. Those moments don’t happen very often with the time slotted to the show, but it’s good to see once in awhile.
Meanwhile we see Bennet instructing Hank to keep Sylar alive no matter the cost.
Unfortunately, Hiro and Ando still need to be slowed up so instead of high rollers gunning for them, now they have strangers showing up with guns.
In a show of desperation Nathan approaches Mohinder about Peter. We get a little expository theories about how much Peter can handle and whether or not he can be stopped. Nathan is clear that Mohinder is not to be encouraging Peter.
We discover that Claude has been living on the Devereaux roof top for some time now. In his usual youthful exuberance Peter wants Claude to teach him control. Claude wants nothing to do with that. He tells Peter to go away and not search for him.
Claire and Zach try to find incriminating evidence on Bennet’s computer, but he’s too good for that. I’m not sure how I feel about the retconning of Zach’s mindwipe. I guess it was done well enough to not be too worrisome.
Janice and Matt continue their bout into realism as the honeymoon ends. Janice begins to realize that she can’t hide anything from him. She asks if he can’t control it or won’t control it.
Hiro and Ando are kidnapped by the strange men, when Ando gets sick of running.
Dr. Witherson brings a confused Niki in to begin treatment for multiple personality disorder, while DL and Micah are falling apart without her. It continues to be a detached storyline and now it even seems to be stalling. It’s stalled from the get go.
Continuing to search for answers, Claire attempts once again to interrogate the Haitian, but the Haitian has nothing for her.
When Bennet comes home and suggest worry about Claire to his wife, she suggests he worry about Lyle considering how absent minded he’s been. Hank calls saying that Sylar has died and asks for suggestions. Bennet tells him to prepare him for shipping. Hank agrees…until Sylar’s eyes popped open.
The Burnt Toast Diner must be a popular place. Claire and Zach hang there while reviewing newspaper articles from fourteen years ago, looking for clues on Claire’s birth parents. They find that a woman named Meredith Gordon was killed in a fire in Kermit, Texas, supposedly along with her 18-month-old daughter. Is that Claire?
While before the review board, Matt realizes that the truth will get him nowhere, so he decides to bite the bullet and recant his story about superpowered heroics. He gets suspended.
Peter plans his journey to Nevada, packing up when Mohinder and Nathan walk in to try to stop him. Mohinder suggests that he may be able to find an inhibitor, Nathan says he’ll do everything he can. Peter won’t stop though and he runs. Nathan chased him but finds only an open window.
And then we see Claude holding his hand over Peter’s mouth.
Claude has finally come around on the idea of helping Peter to attempt to control his powers as he doesn’t want everyone killed.
Janice finds the best way to cheer up Matt about his suspension and she can’t hide it. She’s pregnant.
DL decides it’s a great idea for him to break INTO prison to see his wife and tell her that playtime is over and she’s got to come home.
Ok.
Their parenting skills aren’t amounting to much however as Micah uses his powers to hijack money from the ATM.
Micha finally admits to DL that he has a secret as well and dumps the bag of cash on his father.
In a way that Hiro re-connects with the storyline at least slightly — we finally meet the big boss who kidnapped Hiro and Ando.
Mr. Sulu. Or Hiro’s dad.
Claire’s detective work pays off and she tracks down Meredith Gordon, who after a little initial hesistance, admits that she’s her mother — and lights her cigarette without a flame.
In a great ending sequence, Bennet goes to see the dead Sylar, lifts the sheet off his body and reveals….Hank.
Shocked Bennet turns to see Sylar who asks him how Claire is. It’s a great ending to a mostly average episode.
In this case the whole is certainly better than the sum of its parts.
