Review: Heroes 1.05 Heroes Hiros

“Hiros” is a quick return to form for Heroes. It doesnt expound much more than has been previously reveaeld but it is the slightly more urgent pace that serves the episode well.

Future Hiro tells Peter a little, enough to convince him that he needs to get to Isaac if he’s going to save the world.

Save the cheerleader, save the world.

Why aren’t future people more specific about their needs. Just tell him what to do man!

Meanwhile in Texas, Claire and Brody are dealing with the aftermath of her little revenge stunt. It makes her character a bit more questionable as she easily could have killed Brody, knowing she wouldn’t die herself.

Back in Vegas, Bennet and the Hatian drag Nathan outside in a parking lot. After a little verbal fencing, Nathan flies away to avoid the Hatian “putting him down”. Hmmm so the Hatian does have to actively stop someone’s powers from working. And why wouldn’t he be doing that from the get go? They knew Matt’s power, they probably knew Nathan’s.

Niki is woken up in Nathan’s bed, and accused by his campaign flunkies of having something to do with Nathan’s disappearance. An appearance by Linderman’s aide dispels that and tells Niki her debt is paid. Niki doesn’t believe what happened until she sees the tape and sees Jessica in action.
After Hiro left and time started up again, Peter is left to try to explain to a ever-increasingly disbelieving Mohinder. Mohinder refuses to acquiesce to Peter’s attempts to get him to go back to Isaac’s. Mohinder continues to have split personalities of his own going back and forth between belief and disbelief.

Back in L.A., Janice Parkman is on the phone frantic because Matt still hasn’t come home yet. Suddenly Matt stirs awakening on the couch. She laces into him on how afraid she was, but Parkman can’t account for the day he’s lost. So he tries to brush it aside.

In Nevada, Hiro and Ando are dumped on the side of the road by the disillusioned gamblers. Hiro claims it’s payback for using the dark side, while Ando becomes disenfranchised with his being along in the first place. The duo get testy and bitter and eventually Ando storms out leaving Hiro alone.

Where he sees Nathan fly in to the diner he’s eating in.

In a chance to show what people would do with powers in real life we see Matt using his mind reading capabilities to read his wife’s mind and make the perfect date.

Hiro approaches Nathan confiding in him that he saw him fly. Nathan pretends not to understand him, but Hiro keeps going confiding everything in him including his trip to the future. Nathan’s reactions are priceless, but for whatever reason he decides to ask if he wins the election. Hiro replies that he wins it in a mudslide.

Then Hiro asks for a ride and against everything we’ve seen from Nathan, he accepts.

Back in the hospital, Claire confides in her father about everything, the car, Brody, and begs him not to tell anyone. Benett replies that nobody will know a thing. He goes to Brody and lays into him in a very quiet and sincere manner despite Brody still acting out and threatening to sue. Soon after Benett brings the Hatian in who “hollows him out”.

Peter arrives at Isaac’s and of course there is major tension. Peter tries to get past it by telling Isaac he believes him, but Isaac is unsure about his feelings at the moment. Searching for answers, Peter arranges the paintings in Isaac’s loft and realizes they are a narrative. He puts it out there that everything is interconnected, and everyone is coming together to save the cheerleader.

Basically he tells the audience what we’ve all gotten so far.

There is one painting unfinished that he tells Isaac he has to complete. Isaac tells him he has no more drugs so if he wants the painting, get him the drugs. Peter realizes he doesn’t need the drugs…he can finish it.

Claire goes to Brody to square things up, knowing that while he was a jackass, her revenge was evil as well. Brody doesn’t recognize her and can’t understand why she keeps calling him Brody. Thanks Haitian dude.

Niki makes it home and the house is surrounded by police claiming that husband, DL is in the area. In the middle of this mess, Ando walks in as she is the internet stripper he’s been visiting. It’s kind of an awkward moment, but it’s over quickly enough.

After a lovemaking session, Matt reads that she wants coffee ice cream so he runs to the convenience store. While there he also realizes he needs aspiring. As the thoughts around him become clearer he finds a man who is getting ready to rob it. He confronts the man nicely and gets the guy to realize his error, leave the gun and walk away. As people get nervous seeing him pick up the gun, he says that it’s okay, that he’s a cop but he gets overwhelmed by the voices and collapses. Is this Hatian related? We don’t know.

Niki finds out that Ando is one of her customers. Ando found her address searching the WHOIS database for her domain. Niki tells him he shouldn’t have come there. Ando thought she would help him because they talk so much online. Niki explains that the person he sees online isn’t who she is. She tells the police they can let Ando go. He tells her it was nice to meet her and leaves. The police leave and tell her they’ll leave a car outside in case D.L. returns. Niki walks through the house and as she leaves the room D.L. appears behind her in it.

Hiro and Ando reunite and make up beginning their adventure again. Ando asks him to call Isaac again which Hiro does. The phone rings but Isaac says not to answer it because he keeps getting calls from some weird Japanese dude. Remembering Hiro, Peter picks up the phone and a new era of Heroes begins.

This was a good episode as it picked up the pace again. Any miscues were minor and not even worth mentioning really.
