“Resurrection Ship Part 1″
Review: Battlestar Galactica 2.11 BSG Resurrection1

“Resurrection Ship” is a great continuation of what began in “Pegasus”. The two commanders standing tall, but neither allowing their Vipers to actually fire causing the first shot. It almost seems slightly out of character that Cain wouldn’t step over that line, but it just serves to make the audience question how far gone she is. It serves the show well.

The Vipers are reduced to playing chicken basically until Starbuck returns with her Blackbird. Without a transponder, both ships believe she must be a Raider, so they turn to attack her, until she declares herself. Cain seems ready to start it up again until Starbuck uploads the shots she got from her recon mission.

A cease fire is called and Cain and Adama meet with Roslin who falls back on her schoolteacher lifestyle by calling out the two offending “students” on the carpet. It’s a humorous sequence, which is weird given the circumstances, but they really are two children at that point. Even the comments are childish:

Roslin: Now, I am sure that Pegasus would prevail in any fight–
Adama: –I wouldn’t count on that–

But they agree to plan an attack on the big ship, and deal with their misgivings regarding Tyrol and Helo after the attack.

After Cain leaves, Roslin shows her hard-hearted side again, by saying what everyone is thinking. Cain has to be killed. Adama doesn’t like it at all, but is hard pressed to argue. He accepts it when later he learns about an incident where Cain stripped civilian ships for parts and people and left them to die.

Baltar has made some progress with Pegasus Six (Gina) and she is talking to him. She tells him she wants to die, but Baltar won’t let that happen. She names the ship as a Resurrection ship, where the Cylons who die get downloaded to and given a new body. She tells him because she wants it destroyed so she dies.

In the middle we are treated to a sequence of Roslin getting sicker. She can barely stand at some points. It’s handled well because it’s given a brief timeslot in the very active episode.

Additionally we get a great character developing scene between Chief and Helo discussing their feelings on Boomer, and what it means to them where they are. Helo’s stories in particular endear the viewer into sympathy for the character.

Cain appreciated Starbuck’s initiative and promotes her to CAG, giving her Apollo as she asks. She seems to see a lot of herself in Starbuck and vice versa. That’s what makes her next mission so challenging.

After they plan out the attack on the Resurrection Ship, both Cain and Adama pull aside a staffer. Cain takes her XO, Fisk, while Adama pulls aside Starbuck. They each charge their staffer with a plan to assassinate the other directly after the battle during the celebration. Much as Boomer shot Adama.

Both Fisk and Starbuck seem unhappy with the call, but neither blanch at their duty. It does a wonderful job of setting up part 2 and successfully draws the viewer in to wanting more immediately.
